Add Date in PDF Document

Add a date field to your PDF document quickly and easily using pdfFiller's intuitive online editor.

What is Add Fields Mode?

Add Fields mode in pdfFiller allows you to create fillable PDF forms by inserting various interactive elements, including date fields. This mode differs from Edit Mode, which focuses on altering existing content rather than adding new fields. The user-friendly interface makes it accessible for small and medium-sized businesses that may lack technical expertise, enabling them to add date fields in PDF documents effortlessly.

Why Use Interactive Date Fields?

Adding date fields to PDFs enhances the functionality of your documents, especially for contracts and agreements. By incorporating interactive date fields, you can speed up document completion and improve the overall user experience. Unlike static forms, which require manual entry and can lead to errors, interactive documents allow users to select dates easily, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in your workflows.

How to Access Add Fields Mode

  • Open pdfFiller in your web browser.
  • Log in to your account or create a new one if necessary.
  • Locate the Add Fields button on the main dashboard.
  • Click on the button to enter Add Fields mode.
  • Familiarize yourself with the interface to understand its features.

Uploading Your PDF Document

To upload documents into pdfFiller for editing, ensure your file is in a supported format such as PDF, DOCX, or JPG. Begin by clicking the upload button on the dashboard and selecting your file. If you attempt to upload unsupported formats, the system will prompt you to choose a compatible file. This process is straightforward and allows for efficient document management.

Types of Fields Available

  • Date fields: Essential for contracts and agreements.
  • Text fields: Allow users to input information directly.
  • Checkboxes: Useful for obtaining user confirmations.
  • Signature fields: Enable e-signatures for legal documents.
  • Dropdown menus: Provide options for users to select from.

Step-by-Step Guide to Adding a Date Field

  • Enter Add Fields mode in pdfFiller.
  • Select the date field option from the toolbar.
  • Click on the area of the document where you want the date field to appear.
  • Adjust the size and position of the date field as needed.
  • Configure the field properties, such as format and default date.
  • Save your changes to the document.
  • Preview the document to ensure the date field functions correctly.
  • Share or download the PDF with the newly added date field.

Configuring Field Properties

Customizing the properties of the date field is crucial for ensuring it meets your document's requirements. Options for customization include setting the date format, defining whether the field is mandatory, and adding placeholder text. By adjusting these settings, you can enhance the usability of fillable PDF forms and ensure they align with your business needs.

Multi-Signer Setup for Date Fields

When dealing with contracts that require multiple signatures, it's essential to assign date fields to each signer. Begin by setting up the multi-signer feature in pdfFiller, then designate specific roles for each signer. This ensures that all parties can fill in their respective date fields, making the signing process clear and organized.

Adding Fields to Scanned PDFs

To add date fields to scanned documents, first ensure that the scanned PDF is OCR-enabled. This allows pdfFiller to recognize text and images within the document. The process involves uploading the scanned PDF, entering Add Fields mode, and placing the date field where needed. Be aware that limitations may arise if the scanned document lacks clarity or is poorly formatted.

How to fill or build a PDF form

1. Upload or create your form

Everything you need to work with forms

  • Make any PDF fillable in seconds Upload any static PDF, from scanned forms to tax templates, and turn it into an interactive form. Add text fields, checkboxes, dropdowns, date pickers, and signature fields anywhere on the form. No redesign. No extra tools needed.
  • Build forms from scratch or let AI do it Start from a blank page, pick a template from pdfFiller's library, or describe what you need and let AI generate a ready-to-use form in seconds. Add fields, set validation rules, mark required inputs — then publish, embed, or share in one click.
  • Fill any form online pdfFiller auto-detects fillable fields as soon as you open a document. Just click and start — type text, check boxes, pick dates, or add your signature. No downloads or extra tools. Works with scanned PDFs and non-interactive forms too.
  • Collect responses, not just files Share your form via a direct link, embed it on your site, or send it to specific recipients. Every submission lands in your pdfFiller account as a separate, trackable response. See who completed the form, get notified when new responses come in, and export all entries to a spreadsheet in one click.
  • Reuse your forms without starting over Save any form as a template and reuse it whenever you need. When the same intake form, contract, or questionnaire needs to go out again, just open the template, update what’s changed, add a signature, and send. Each submission is saved separately, so your original stays intact.

Helpful Tool I had been trying to send off some release forms and was crunched for time so I signed up for PDFFiller's free trial. In the end, I wasn't able to use their software without a purchase, but it made me almost wish I had paid the money. I like that I can sign any document electronically. It definitely saves time and printing costs. It cuts out about 2 extra steps: printing and scanning. This is helpful for documents that need signatures such as release forms, etc. I didn't like how much I had to pay in order to use my e-signed pdf. I don't use the software often enough to make it worth the price. However, if I worked regularly with documents that needed to be signed this software would be the very best solution.
